Before the World Badminton Championship, the TOTAL BWF Thomas & Uber Cup Finals 2018 was held by the World Badminton Federation (BWF). The format of play will change. That is, the proposition of counting the points from 21 points in each game to 11 points, the winner will change from winning 2 out of 3 games into 3 out of 5 games.

This approach receive both sides of agreement and opposition. The consensus is that it will make the game faster and more fun. The total score of the three games winner will have 33 points, while following the current 21 points system, the winner will score 42 points. The game will finish quickly by the players might not have enough time not set up a strategy and perform their respective skills.

However, the latest report from the meeting that was held, 129 of them agreed to use the system, 11 points and 3 in 5 games, while 123 shows support to maintain the 21 points and 2 in 3 games. 129 votes doesn't tally up to two third of the total votes which are 168 votes, where it reach simple majority to implement the new scoring system.

Twenty-one points and two wins in three games began in 2005,  with a trial run after the 2004 Olympics, and efforts were made to continue to find a new scoring system. The 11 point and 3 out of 5 games have been tried on 2014 but the 10 years old, 21-point system last till now and still going strong.

It is the latest news in badminton world of Thailand.
